    • Biography:
David Bedell, son of Absalom Bedell, was born 17 Apr 1761 in Morris County, New Jersey. He was christened 21 Jun 1761 at the First Presbyterian Church in Morris County. After his father died, David entered service in the Revolutionary War in October of 1778 at age 17. It has been said that he first served as a drummer boy, and in 1778 he served under Captain George Gray. Captain John Craig took command in 1779. In June of 1781, David was detached under the command of Captain Erasmus Gill to join General Lafayette in Virginia. Later that year in October, he was sent to join General Nathanael Greene in South Carolina. In March of 1783 he rejoined Colonel Stephen Moylan's 4th Continental Light Dragoons in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. David ended the war as a private in the Second Troop, commanded by Craig, in the 4th Regiment of Light Dragoons commanded Colonel Moylan of the Pennsylvania Line. After the war, he married Ruth Fairchild in 1783. They moved from New Jersey to Burke County, North Carolina around 1798. David was placed on pension roll 18 Dec 1828 with an annual allowance of $100. For his service, he was also granted land in Missouri. David Bedell and his children (his wife Ruth had died previously), along with their many slaves, arrived in Greene County in January of 1834. He settled in Franklin Township and homesteaded with his sons. David Bedell died 24 Mar 1840 in Greene County, Missouri, and was buried in Old Salem Cemetery.
